THE SIGN OF PEACE
At the recent Parish Council meeting, a discussion was held about the sign of peace at Mass.
In recent times, we have omitted the shaking of hands following on from a request from Bishops house and from some who were concerned about flu / colds etc.
However, we have also received a number of complaints from people who see the sign of peace as a central part of the preparation of receiving Holy Communion – especially when family and friends are gathered beside us. Also at funerals, shaking of hands in sympathy in an integral part of the removal to show our concern and sympathy to family members.
The Parish Council suggested that when it comes to the sign of peace, that each person should show a sign of peace which each person is most comfortable. This could be a handshake, a small bow of the head, or raising ones hand and saying “peace be with you”. If people have a cold / flu, perhaps we could suggest they choose to the latter. After making contact with the HSE there are currently no warnings about handshaking or
contaminations at this time.
We will therefore ask at Mass to share with each other a sign of peace with which you are most comfortable. We hope this may accommodate as many as possible at this time, and the council will review this practice again after Easter and any comments are welcome to members of the Parish council for further discussion.

***********************************************************
Dear friends, Lent is the favourable season for renewing our encounter with Christ, living in his word, in the sacraments and in our neighbour. The Lord, who overcame the deceptions of the Tempter during the forty days in the desert, shows us the path we must take. May the Holy Spirit lead us on a true journey of conversion, so that we can rediscover the gift of God’s word, be purified of the sin that blinds us, and serve Christ present in our brothers and sisters in need. I encourage all the faithful to express this spiritual renewal also by sharing in the Lenten Campaigns promoted by many Church organizations in different parts of the world, and thus to favour the culture of encounter in our one human family. Let us pray for one another so that, by sharing in the victory of Christ, we may open our doors to the weak and poor. Then we will be able to experience and share to the full the joy of Easter. Pope Francis

Statue of Our Lady Of Fatima
A statue of Our Lady of Fatima, blessed by Pope Francis, has begun a tour of Ireland. In a celebration of 100 years since the Virgin Mary appeared to three children in the Portugese village, the three-foot-high statue started its journey in Armagh. A series of services will take place across Ireland to mark the jubilee year of the apparitions. Pope Francis blessed six statues to be brought around the world to appeal for prayer and reparation for peace and to promote the sanctity of family life. It was brought to Ireland from Rome by the Alliance of the Holy Family International with the Alliance of the Two Hearts Ireland. Members of the public will be able to pray before the pilgrim statue in each of the churches it visits.

In the Diocese of Waterford and Lismore, the schedule is as follows:
Tuesday 28th March

Cracked
‘Ring the bells that still can ring. Forget your perfect offering.
There is a crack in everything … that’s how the light gets in.’ Leonard Cohen
No one is perfect. This might seem like the most obvious statement in the world, but it’s important to remember. We live in a time when people’s thoughts and actions are more widely recorded and open to scrutiny than ever before. A small mistake can cost someone their reputation or livelihood. An opinion expressed, particularly online, can invite a world of insults. It appears to be easier than ever to take the moral high ground, and to dismiss a person entirely based on one thing we know about them.
This is not the way Jesus treated people, and it is not how he sees us. The Samaritan woman Jesus meets is all too aware of what the Jews think of her. She is nervous when approached by Jesus at the well. But he sees beyond the label to the person, the woman with a life story and a context of her own. He engages her in intellectual conversation, listens to her, and wins her over.
Jesus could tell the woman everything about her life, and he knows each one of us just as intimately. He knows our past and our faults, our ‘cracks’. That is why he is able to speak to us, if we resolve to try and listen. It is also an important lesson in how we should treat others.
Tríona Doherty

Easter Mass

Mass will be celebrated in St Patrick’s Chapel, Marlfield on Easter Sunday morning 16th April at 9.30am, Seating is limited so please come early if you need a seat.

Grass cutting

The village was busy cutting grass in all areas as the fine weather gave a spurt in growth and the mowers and their crew were in fine order. The heavy grass on the large areas is cut by Coolmore Stables and the crew from Clonmel Borough District Council with their specialised machines and it is looking good. The grass in Marlfield Chapel burial grounds is cut and looking lovely and we have a full schedule for the coming week. The village committee are operating a fuel voucher scheme with Clonmel Service station in Cherrymount and we are grateful if motorists could also pay for a few litres of fuel for the village when purchasing as it all helps to defray cost of cutting.

Setting and Sowing

The village Tus scheme is busy getting the two areas chosen for sowing ready for the coming season. We have planted primualas in the roundabout and will make a start on the high bed at the village cross. Already the long bed has been planted on the top of the Moore’s Road and some final wild flower planting needs doing in this area. The other area we will be tackling this year is the “bottle bank” area and we will liaise with the Clonmel Borough Council on a long term tidy and plant strategy as it has potential.

Pope Francis Easter Message (Shortened Version)
Dear Brothers and Sisters, a Happy and Holy Easter!
The Church throughout the world echoes the angel’s message to the women: “Do not be afraid! I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for he has been raised… Come, see the place where he lay”
( Mt 28:5-6).This is the culmination of the Gospel, it is the Good News par excellence: Jesus, who was crucified, is risen! This event is the basis of our faith and our hope. If Christ were not raised, Christianity would lose its very meaning; the whole mission of the Church would lose its impulse, for this is the point from which it first set out and continues to set out ever anew. The message which Christians bring to the world is this: Jesus, Love
incarnate, died on the cross for our sins, but God the Father raised him and made him the Lord of life and death. In Jesus, love has triumphed over hatred, mercy over sinfulness, goodness over evil, truth over falsehood, life over death.
That is why we tell everyone: “Come and see!” In every human situation, marked by frailty, sin and death, the Good News is no mere matter of words, but a testimony to unconditional and faithful love: it is about leaving ourselves behind and encountering others, being close to those crushed by life’s troubles, sharing with the needy, standing at the side of the sick, elderly and the outcast… “Come and see!”: Love is more powerful, love gives life, love makes hope blossom in the wilderness.
With this joyful certainty in our hearts, today we turn to you, risen Lord! By your
resurrection, which this year we celebrate together with the Churches that follow the Julian calendar, we ask you to enlighten and inspire the initiatives that promote peace in Ukraine so that all those involved, with the support of the international community, will make every effort to prevent violence and, in a spirit of unity and dialogue, chart a path for the country’s future. On this day, may they be able to proclaim, as brothers and
sisters, that Christ is risen, Khrystos voskres! Lord, we pray to you for all the peoples of the earth: you who have conquered death, grant us your life, grant us your peace!
Dear brothers and sisters, Happy Easter!

The Priests of the Parish, Canon Brendan Crowley and Fr Michael Toomey wish all of our Parishioners a Happy and Peaceful Easter.
