Village powers ahead

The Marlfield Village AGM held recently in the Marlfield hurling clubhouse was one of the best attended meetings ever. The large crowd present were very heartened by the excellent results in the 2017 tidy town’s competition of 294 marks. The work programme is being adjusted for this year and will reflect the comments of the judging panel. Anne Mc Loughlin gave a account of how the expenditure was financed and had the good news that we are in the black. Kathleen Hogg stood down as Chairperson and Francis Keogh was elected in place. Bernard Lennon has the post of secretary and has expressed his desire to pass on the task to a new pair of hands next year. Everyone present has agreed to play a role in the maintenance and management of our lovely heritage village. It was agreed that the Monday night work party will resume in March and after the damage by tropical storm Ophelia we have a job of work ahead.

Tree planting

The first task that the village work party has to tackle is the planting of two replacement fruiting cherry trees. The trees will be planted to replace the ones blown over in the storm and will be on what was once known as Turnpike Road. The other tree which also was storm damaged was the red whitethorn and it has been ordered and ready for collection.
