Welcome: We welcome into the Christian Faith Community of St Mary’s, Emmie Cecille Gartland who was christened last weekend.  We congratulate her parents Nigel and Leah, godparents, grandparents and extended family.  We also welcome, Joshua William Collins, congratulations to his parents, Philip and Angela, godparents, grandparents and extended family.

Annual Churchgate Collection:  Gorta Self Help Africa will be holding their annual Churchgate Collection in Clonmel on 27th and 28th August.

The Mustard Seed:  The members of The Mustard Seed, under the patronage of The Immaculate Heart House of Prayer, Doon, Co. Limerick, are undertaking the work of helping Father Dariusz Paszyński in Russia.  Fr Dariusz Paszyński, C.S.s.R., is a Polish Redemptiorist working in Russia, Kazakhstan, Belorussia, Ukraine.

For the past eighteen years they have collaborated with Fr Dariusz and assisted him by fundraising for the first Catholic Church in Orsk, Russia.  This was built and consecrated on 25th June 2006.  It is dedicated to Our Lady of Perpetual Help.  Since 2008 they are helping to raise funds to complete the first Catholic Church dedicated to Pope John Paul II in the city of Togliatti, Russia.  The site was blessed and consecrated in May 2010.  Work is ongoing there presently on the interior of the church building.  There will be a churchgate collection this weekend, 20th and 21st August towards this.  All help would be greatly appreciated.

Leaving Cert Results:  Congratulations to all the boys and girls from the Parish who received their Leaving Cert Results last Wednesday.  We congratulate them on their achievement and wish them all well in their future.  To those who were disappointed  –  don’t lose heart.  Life is not just all about points.  You have gifts and talents, that will enable you to achieve your goal in life.

Eucharistic Adoration:  The Adoration Committee of Waterford and Lismore is developing its Diocesan Team.  You are welcome to attend an Information Meeting in Hotel Minella, Clonmel on Saturday 17th September 2016 at 11am (finishing at 12.30pm).  Refreshments served.  See poster in the Church for further details of how to attend, or contact the Parish Office.

Golden Jubilee:  Congratulations to Michael and Bridie Hickey, Kilmacomma who celebrated the Golden Jubilee of their wedding recently.  We wish them many more years of health and happiness.

Parish Pilgrimage to Lourdes:  Our Parish Pilgrimage was a great success.  We were blessed with good weather.  All were relaxed and enriched by our few days in Lourdes.  Much credit for the success of our Pilgrimage is due to the hard work and dedication of our Lourdes committee  –  Jim Connolly, Seamus McHale and Edel Keane.  We thank them for their care, meticulous planning, commitment and dedication.  This year we had four Priests with us on the Pilgrimage, Fr Pat Hayes, Fr Bobby Power, Fr Shane O’Neill and Fr Billy Meehan.  Two other groups from the Diocese were also in Lourdes at the same time  –  St Paul’s, Waterford, led by Fr Pat Fitzgerald and another group from Rathgormack/Innishannon led by Fr Bernard Hughes.  The highlight of the Pilgrimage was our Mass at the Grotto, at which Fr Pat Hayes was the main celebrant.

Dear Jesus, help me to spread Your fragrance everywhere I go. Flood my soul with Your spirit and life. Penetrate and possess my whole being so utterly, That my life may only be a radiance of Yours.
Shine through me, and be so in me
That every soul I come in contact with
May feel Your presence in my soul.
Let them look up and see no longer me, but only Jesus!
Stay with me and then I shall begin to shine as You shine, So to shine as to be a light to others;
The light, O Jesus will be all from You; none of it will be mine; It will be you, shining on others through me.
Let me thus praise You the way You love best, by shining on those around me.
Let me preach You without preaching, not by words but by my example,
By the catching force of the sympathetic
influence of what I do,
The evident fullness of the love my heart bears to You. Amen

Masses this Weekend:

Saturday 3rd September

10:00am         Reconciliation Mass

6:15pm         Willie Heffernan

Ann & Bessie Keeley (Shared)

Sunday 4th September

10:30am

12:00noon

Wedding Bells:  Congratulations to James Quinn, Ard Fatima and Maxine Carroll, Clarke Villas who were married in St Oliver’s last week.  Congratulations also to Brian Richards, Kilsheelan and Laura Grace, Glenview Close who were married in St Mary’s last Saturday.  We wish both young couples many years of married happiness and togetherness.

Umbra Clothing Collection:  Clothing collection on behalf of Fr Nicholas Ngulutu of St Josephs Parish, Kavisuni, Diocese of Kitui, Kenya will take place on Friday 9th September before 12 noon at the Church Gate door.  All types of clean ladies, gents and children’s clothing & paired shoes appreciated.

The Mustard Seed:  The Mustard Seed sent a letter to thank all the Parishioners for their generosity during their recent Church Gate Collection.  The collected from our Parish, €280.29, which will be used to help Fr Dariusz in Russia and Kazakhstan.

Church Organ:  Over the past three years various necessary repairs were carried out on our Church Organ.  The Organ is one of the finest of its kind in Europe.  Repairs carried out to date—cleaning and restoration of pipes, re-ivorising keyboard, repair to foot pedal and new motor for bellows.  The final phase is the repair of the bellows.  It had become porous with age and has to be repaired and re-leathered.  This work is in progress at present.  It is important to keep our Organ in good repair and fit for purpose, as we have the best Choir in the Diocese.  A Choir is essential for good liturgical celebration, so it is important that they be resourced and encouraged.  The cost of repairing the bellows will be approximately €8000.  If anyone would like to make a donation towards this project it would be greatly appreciated.

Donation and Fundraising:  Thanks to the Senior Choir who made a donation of €1000 towards repair of Church Organ.  This was as a result of table quizzes held.

Statue of Our Lady:  You may have noticed a beautiful statue of Our Lady on the plinth on the High Altar in the Sanctuary.  This was a gift to the Parish by a Parishioner.  It will be used for our May Procession and Crowning of Our Lady celebrations.  We thank the donor and pray that many graces and blessings will be bestowed on them for their generosity.

Processional Cross:  You may have noticed a new Processional Cross on the Sanctuary.  It is situated behind the Chair, and was purchased in Lourdes.  It is a replica of the Crozier used by Pope Saint John Paul.

Blessing of School Bags:  There will be a blessing of school bags at the weekend Parish Masses on the 10th and 11th September.

Saint Pio Prayer Group:  Monday 5th September, Rosary and prayers at 6.30pm.  Mass at 7pm for all petitions placed on the altar.  All are welcome.

Birthday of Our Lady:  There will a procession of Mother Mary on the Birthday of Our Lady.  The procession will start from St Mary’s at 7pm on Thursday 8th September.  The procession will be from St Mary’s, to St Peter and Paul’s, to the Friary and then to Edel Quinn’s Shrine.  All are welcome.

Icon of Our Lady of Perpetual Help:  This year was the centenary of this famous icon coming to Ireland, and it is in the possession of the Redemptorists in Limerick.  This year, the Icon was taken to all Cathedrals in Ireland as well as Knock.  The Redemptorists have kindly agreed to bring this icon to St Mary’s.  This will occur in October, when we will have a triduum of Prayer and devotions.  The date has not been finally arranged.  Watch this space for further details.

Mother Teresa of Calcutta:  Today, Mother Teresa of Calcutta is being made a Saint.  We pray that her spirituality and outreach will continue and make society more open and caring to the marginalised.  Pope Francis will declare Blessed Teresa of Calcutta a Saint in St Peter’s Square at the Vatican during the canonisation Mass at 9.30am on Sunday and will be live on EWTN. (Eternal Word Television Network).

Clonmel and District Wheelchair Collection: The Clonmel and District Wheelchair Society will be doing their annual door to door collection this month of September.  Please give generously.

Best of Luck:  We wish our Senior Hurlers every best wish and success in their All-Ireland final match today.  We wish a safe journey to all who are travelling up for the match.

Medugorje Mass: The monthly Medugorje Mass will take place at Rosminian House of Prayer, Kilsheelan on Thursday 8th Sept at 8pm, with Rosary, Holy Mass and prayers for  healing.  All welcome.

Village Dance

The Marlfield Village dance takes place on Saturday night the 10th September in the Clonmel Park Hotel. The night’s entertainment starts at 9.30pm when Sean and Johnnie take the stage with an unique blend of all your favourite tunes. The admission is payable at the door and a very reasonable €5 per head.

Tus Scheme

This month is change over time on the Tus scheme and we will be losing two of our workers when Stephen and Keith finish their term. Marlfield has gained from their efforts and we look forward to their replacements .Well done lads for your skills and effort from all in the village.

Cleaning and tidying

Work has been under way all week on the cleaning and tidying up of the entrance driveway to Marlfield Estate. Pruning and selective removal of excess trees n the left hand side around the houses made a big difference to the overall ambiance of the area. It was also a timely windfall for local residents with a winters contribution of timber to be collected and stored. A win win for everyone and a massive improvement to the visual aspect of this lovely entrance.

PRAYER FOR GRANDPARENTS
Lord Jesus, you were born of the Virgin Mary,
the daughter of Saints Joachim and Anne. Look with love on grandparents the world over. Protect them! They are a source of enrichment for families, for the Church and for all of society. Support them! As they grow older, may they continue to be for their families
strong pillars of Gospel faith, guardian of noble
domestic ideals, living treasuries of sound religious traditions. Make them teachers of wisdom and
courage, that they may pass on to future generations the fruits of their mature human and spiritual
experience. Lord Jesus, help families and society
to value the presence and roles of grandparents. May they never be ignored or excluded, but always
encounter respect and love. Help them to live
serenely and to feel welcomed in all the years of life which you give them. Mary, Mother of all the living, keep grandparents constantly in your care,
accompany them on their earthly pilgrimage, and by your prayers, grant that all families may one day be reunited in our heavenly homeland, where you await all humanity for the great embrace of live without end. Amen!

Mushrooms

The mushroom crop came suddenly this week with excellent fresh mushrooms making a tasty breakfast in village houses. The special places for this elusive fungus are a close kept secret and if you ask their whereabouts you’re likely to be sent on fools errant. Keep the eyes on the ground and check the un ploughed areas.

Altar Servers
One of the traditional ministries in the church is that of Altar Servers. They serve God at the altar in a unique way, adding to the reverence of the liturgy.
Last year we began to recruit and train new servers to much acclaim. All the servers were a great credit to their families and themselves. Now, after the summer break, they will be returning along with many new servers who have come forward to be part of this ministry in our parish. We have contacted our schools, however, if any child from third to sixth class wishes to join, please contact their teacher or the parish office.
We look forward to welcoming back our current and new servers in the coming weeks.
Our commitment to safeguarding remains a priority in our parish, and we adhere to the highest standards across all our ministries.

On behalf of The Irish Blood Transfusion Service. Please pass on our thanks to all who contributed to the running of this Clinic. 540 Donors attended our Blood Donor Clinic in Clonmel Park Hotel. This generosity and commitment to helping others is very much appreciated.
It is a precious gift that brings life & hope to the patients and to their families & friends.
