Welcome and Congratulations:  We welcome the young boys and girls from the Gael-Scoil who received their First Eucharist this Saturday.  We welcome them into the Eucharistic Faith—community of St Mary’s.  We hope and pray that appreciation, knowledge and celebration of the Eucharist will sustain them on their Faith—journey through life.

Ringside Seats

If you want a ringside position for stage 2 of the Clonmel CC GP road race on Sunday 29th May then Marlfield is the place to be. The 50kilometer circuit passes through Marlfield 5 times and it will be memorable event. The action starts at midday and will last about 3 hours in total with the direction of travel from Clonmel to Knocklofty and in the wood Road . The best viewing places are the village itself or the sides of the roundabout to the Marlfield Farm. Please be advised that there are traffic control measures in place during the cycle race and all essential traffic will be require to travel in the direction of the race. This is a great spectacle as the cyclists pass through the village at speed and in great numbers. Please cooperate with the race stewards on the day and enjoy the free view. If you have any query regarding time or traffic controls please contact 0877809209 for clarification on your question.

Memorable Day

The Joe Burke Memorial walk and dedication of the bench on Saturday 21st was a day of memories. The bench at the roundabout facing the mountains was bless by Fr Hegarty and Rev Fryday and formally dedicated to the memory of Joe by his long-time friend Seamus Heal TD. The walk compere was Bernard Lennon who gave a detailed account of Marlfield’s history and its environmental treasures. Archaeological surveys have indicated the presence of human habitation in Marlfield over 6000 years ago with cooking hearths, burial grounds settlements and the day to day debris of human activity. The walk was a trip down memory lane with the role and commitment of Joe to the fore at all times. The lovely cup of tea /coffee with buttered barm brack, tart and cakes was a great finale to a day to remember and the huge crowd expressed their appreciation to the family of Joe for this wonderful tribute to his memory. Well done to all the organisers and thanks to all who attended .

Website www.peaksmcclonmel.ie

Summer has arrived and what a pleasant times are to be had on the mountains in this fair land.

The peaks club walked on two different mountain ranges over the weekend with the noon walk led by Nora Phelan and Seamus Maher. Starting from the Bay Lough car park it was a pleasant stroll to the Lough and the stiff climb on to Knockshanhullion and the stunning view on top which was a good introduction to new walker Siobhan. A nice loop walk was the order of the day with a spot of lunch before descending at the fence Once changed and sorted it was on to the pub at Graigue and relaxed refreshment before the parting after a most enjoyable day on the mountains. What was very noticeable was the number of families picnicking at Bay Lough taking advantage of the best things in life which are free.

All walks on Sunday the 5th June are on the Knockmealdown range and the leaders are Niall Quinlivan on the early walk with Fiona Hegarty and Martha Beardmore on the noon walk . The annual BBQ is scheduled for  Sunday the 26th June and more details on our website and your meets list.

St. Anthony of Padua is one of the most famous disciples of St. Francis of Assisi. He was a famous preacher and worker of miracles in his own day, and throughout the eight centuries since his death he has so generously come to the assistance of the faithful who invoke him, that he is known throughout the world. Once a man, at whose home St. Anthony was spending the night, came upon the saint and found him holding in his arms the Child Jesus, unspeakably beautiful and surrounded with heavenly light. For this reason St. Anthony is often depicted holding the Child Jesus.

Don’t forget to add your exam students name to the list at Our Lady’s Altar.

This weekend, there will be a national collection for the World Meeting of Families in which it is hoped Pope Francis will attend, which takes place in Dublin in 2018. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Pope Francis has decided that the World Meeting of Families will be held in Dublin on 22nd to 26th August 2018, with the theme “The Gospel of the Family: Joy for the World”. He made the announcement at the concluding Mass of the World Meeting of Families which ended in Philadelphia. It was the final stage of Pope Francis’ historic trip to United States. The Mass in Philadelphia was attended by almost one million people. Before Mass, the Pope greeted Archbishop Charles Chaput of Philadelphia and Archbishop Diarmuid Martin of Dublin. Held every three years and sponsored by the Holy See’s Pontifical Council for the Family, the World Meeting of Families is the world’s largest Catholic gathering of families. It has been described as a celebration of family life and of the Catholic Church’s commitment to support families. Hosting a global event of this size requires a huge amount of planning and financial outlay on behalf of the host country. Accordingly, the bishops have now established a National Finance Committee to provide advice on the financial planning for the World Meeting of Families in Ireland. There will be three national collections to support the hosting of the event, the first of which will take place this weekend, 11th and 12th June. The remaining collections will take place in 2017 and 2018. Your support is appreciated.

Mass at the Well

Mass will be celebrated at St Patrick’s Well on Thursday evening the 23rd June at 8pm. It is intended to celebrate the mass in the Chapel and as space is limited seating will not be provided and the committee advice bringing a camp stool or similar if required. St Patrick’s Well site is in a natural depression of the ground and has 63 steps down and back up again so be aware of its unique layout.

That Strange Construction

Work has been completed on the wild flower bed and it is not part of an arena for sporting events. The woven willow fence was constructed by our Tus crew of Aidan and Keith with tuition from Nuala and it is looking good. Please do not enter or allow animals under your control to scratch or dig in the freshly planted ground.

A Fathers Day Prayer
Blessed are you Lord and God of love, you who has given to each of us the gift of a Father.
Today we honor him and we thank you for the wonderful things that are ours because of him.
His love for us has been a sign of your Divine affection and a sharing in your holy love.
His concern for our needs and our welfare is a mirror of your holy care.
Bless our Fathers this day with your Strength that they may continue to be a sign of your Love in our Families. Bless them in this lifetime with joy and laugher, with pride in their children and with peace in their hearts. Bless too, those Fathers who have gone out of this life. They gave us life, may they now enjoy the fullness of life in the embrace of God of Love and Peace.
Fathers, may you, on this special day, be blessed by God and by our love for you. AMEN

On Wednesday June 29th the Church celebrates the Feast day of Ss. Peter & Paul.
Peter, who was named Simon, was a fisherman of Galilee and was introduced to the Lord Jesus by his brother Andrew, also a fisherman. Jesus gave him the name Cephas (Petrus in Latin), which means ‘Rock,’ because he was to become the rock upon which Christ would build His Church. Peter was a bold follower of the Lord. He was the first to recognize that Jesus was “the Messiah, the Son of the living God,” and eagerly pledged his fidelity until death. In his boldness, he also made many mistakes, however, such as losing faith when walking on water with Christ and betraying the Lord on the night of His passion. Yet despite his human weaknesses, Peter was chosen to shepherd God’s flock.
St. Paul was the Apostle of the Gentiles. Before receiving the name Paul, he was Saul, a Jewish Pharisee who zealously persecuted Christians in Jerusalem. Saul’s conversion took place as he was on his way to Damascus to persecute the Christian community there. As he was traveling along the road, he was
suddenly surrounded by a great light from heaven. He was blinded and fell off his horse. He then heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?” He answered: “Who are you, Lord?” Christ said: “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. “Saul continued to Damascus, where he was baptized and his sight was restored. He took the name Paul and spent the remainder of his life preaching the Gospel tirelessly to the Gentiles of the Mediterranean world.
