Memorable Day

The Joe Burke Memorial walk and dedication of the bench on Saturday 21st was a day of memories. The walk compere was Bernard Lennon who gave a detailed account of Marlfield’s history and its environmental treasures. Archaeological surveys have indicated the presence of human habitation in Marlfield over 6000 years ago with cooking hearths, burial grounds settlements and the day to day debris of human activity. The walk was a trip down memory lane with the role and commitment of Joe to the fore at all times. The lovely cup of tea /coffee with buttered barm brack, tart and cakes was a great finale to a day to remember and the huge crowd expressed their appreciation to the family of Joe for this wonderful tribute to his memory. Well done to all the organisers and thanks to all who attended .
