Involvement Centre: Involvement Centre’s are peer led recovery focus spaces which offer a warm welcoming place in which mental health difficulties are understood to be part of life and are accepted in a non-judgemental way. Anam Cara Tipperary, the organisation that supports bereaved parents, is holding a Parent Evening on Monday 21st of January at 7:20pm in the Horse & Jockey Hotel, Thurles, Co. Tipperary. This event is free and open to all bereaved parents regardless of the age your child died, the circumstances of their death, or whether their death was recent or not.
Whist starts up again this Sunday January 13th at 2.30pm in the Bridge Centre Clonmel.

The Baptism of the Lord
Today’s Gospel tells us that the people were “filled with expectation”. It sounds like a very exciting time as they
wonder who this prophet John could be. John must have been a very dynamic and inspiring preacher as the people
speculated if he were the one they had been waiting for. He uses all of this attention for one purpose: to point people to Jesus. There are many people in our own lives who have pointed us towards Jesus, perhaps by an invitation to an event or a retreat or by sharing a reflection with us at just the right time. In them, we see something special and interesting that makes us wonder in our hearts and seek a little further. They are the John the Baptists in our lives, pointing us towards the Lord like signposts along the way. John humbly responds to the people by saying: “One who is more powerful than I is coming.” He emphasises that it is He who will really set their hearts on fire. While the words concerning “winnowing forks” seem harsh, we might interpret them as speaking of God’s power to transform our lives through Jesus. When Jesus enters into the narrative, Luke emphasises that He is at prayer, and it is then that this powerful experience of God occurs. A nice meditation for today is to repeat the last sentence of today’s Gospel, imagining God speaking these words to you: “You are my Daughter/Son, the Beloved; with you I am well pleased.” Jane Mellett – Intercom News Resources

Clonmel Allotments and Community Gardens Association is holding its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on: Wednesday, 30th January 2019, at 7.00 p.m. The AGM will be held in St. Oliver’s Parish Centre, at the back of St. Oliver’s Parish Church, Elm Park, Clonmel. The business of the AGM will include collecting the annual rents of the allotment and subscriptions from members for 2019, and the selection of the Steering Committee. All members with allotments are invited to attend.

Ponsettias Many thanks again to so many who donated a poinsettia and helped raise funds for the Church Services TV here in the parish. If anyone would like to take a poinsettia (or two) and maybe bring them home or to the cemetery, please feel free to do so. They will be placed at the main entrance and can be taken anytime.
61st Diocesan Pilrimage to Lourdes: The Diocese of Waterford and Lismore will travel to Lourdes for the 61st time this year – 5th to 10th June. Booking at the pilgrimage office will open on Monday 14th January every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9.30am to 2.30pm.

Family Masses for Holy Communion and Confirmation
We welcome to the 11am Mass this morning the Children preparing for their First Holy Communion and their teachers and families. Next Saturday 19th January at the 7.30pm Mass we will have the children preparing for their Confirmation. These family Masses will be on-going over the next number of weeks. Readers please take note of the dates in you are rostered to read at that Mass to avoid confusion.
Week of Prayer for Christian Unity At least once a year, Christians are reminded of Jesus – prayer for his disciples that “they may be one so that the world may believe” (see John 17.21). Christians come together to pray for their unity. Congregations and parishes all over the world exchange preachers or arrange special ecumenical celebrations and prayer services. Traditionally the week of prayer is celebrated between 18th-25th January, between the feasts of St Peter and St Paul. The theme for the week of prayer in 2019, “Justice, and only justice, you shall pursue …” is inspired by Deuteronomy 16:18-20.
On Sunday January 20th, an Ecumenical Service will be held in Christchurch Cathedral (Church of Ireland) Waterford at 7.30pm. The preacher will be Dom Richard Purcell OSCO, Abbot of Mount Melleray Abbey.
