St. Anthony of Padua is one of the most famous disciples of St. Francis of Assisi. He was a famous preacher and worker of miracles in his own day, and throughout the eight centuries since his death he has so generously come to the assistance of the faithful who invoke him, that he is known throughout the world. Once a man, at whose home St. Anthony was spending the night, came upon the saint and found him holding in his arms the Child Jesus, unspeakably beautiful and surrounded with heavenly light. For this reason St. Anthony is often depicted holding the Child Jesus.

This weekend, there will be a national collection for the World Meeting of Families in which it is hoped Pope Francis will attend, which takes place in Dublin in 2018. Your support is greatly appreciated.
Pope Francis has decided that the World Meeting of Families will be held in Dublin on 22nd to 26th August 2018, with the theme The Gospel of the Family: Joy for the World. He made the announcement at the concluding Mass of the World Meeting of Families which ended in Philadelphia. It was the final stage of Pope Francis historic trip to United States. The Mass in Philadelphia was attended by almost one million people. Before Mass, the Pope greeted Archbishop Charles Chaput of Philadelphia and Archbishop Diarmuid Martin of Dublin. Held every three years and sponsored by the Holy Sees Pontifical Council for the Family, the World Meeting of Families is the worlds largest Catholic gathering of families. It has been described as a celebration of family life and of the Catholic Churchs commitment to support families. Hosting a global event of this size requires a huge amount of planning and financial outlay on behalf of the host country. Accordingly, the bishops have now established a National Finance Committee to provide advice on the financial planning for the World Meeting of Families in Ireland. There will be three national collections to support the hosting of the event, the first of which will take place this weekend, 11th and 12th June. The remaining collections will take place in 2017 and 2018. Your support is appreciated.
