Aoife Barrett, South Tipperary Arts Centre’s current Artist-in-Residence, will be closing out her residency with an exhibition and a demonstration.

The exhibition is entitled ‘Shambles’ and is an exhibition of recent and current work by local artist printmaker Aoife Barrett.  It explores a never-ending urge to create order and routine in our daily lives.

“My practice revolves around repetition and a cycle of construction and destruction, altering and re-altering, breaking things down to their basic elements.  I re-use and recycle materials, objects and buildings in an attempt to give them meaning and order.  I make prints from structures and build structures from prints.   I see printmaking as a tool for drawing, building and researching.

More recently, my practice has explored issues around social isolation and loneliness while looking at ways of creating immersive, inclusive communities.   As part of the residency at South Tipperary Arts Centre I am researching the possibilities and potential of print and collaborative work as a tool to engage and connect with people and place”.

The exhibition opens on Thursday 31st January at 6pm. All are welcome. It runs until February 16th

On Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd February, Aoife will be in the gallery of South Tipperary Arts Centre making a printwork inspired by her recent workshops with Making Connections in Clonmel.

Groups are invited to drop in to watch her work and ask questions about the piece, printmaking, her inspirations as an artist. This is a great opportunity to engage with the artist and to reserve a place for your group, please call 052 612 7877 or email info@southtippartscentre.ie
