St Patrick’s Well.
The St Patrick’s Day celebrations start with the raising of the flags at the Well at 8.15 am on the 17 March as is the custom for many years. This event is attended by the Clonmel Borough area councillors and dignitaries from visiting twinning towns. The blessing which Canon Billy Meehan imparts to all present is a reminder of what the day’s events encompass.
Dedication of the famine panel.
The dedication of the final lectern panel in the Marlfield Heritage trail will also take place immediately after the ceremony at St Patrick’s Well. The panel will be located in the green area opposite the famine walls and is a reminder of those terrible times and the catastrophic effect it has had on the Irish People for over one hundred and fifty years.
Wall repairs.
The repair of the village stone walls which have very favourable mention in the reports of the adjudicators of the Tidy Towns competition is well under way. The first wall to get the mason’s attention is the section of wall damaged some time ago by a falling tree in the avenue of St Patrick’s Chapel. There is plenty of work for our Tús worker Gerard Delaney in and around Marlfield Village and the trowel and hammer will have a busy time.
